Huawei earns "A" grade from CDP for its climate change actions
Shenzhen, China, Jan. 13, 2023 - Huawei announces that it has received the highest grade from CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project), a global environmental nonprofit organization, for its climate change activities. The CDP also awarded Huawei an award of excellence for its environmental commitment.
Huawei believes that digital is a powerful tool to reduce carbon emissions, promote renewable energy, contribute to the circular economy and protect the environment. The company is committed to the "Tech for a Better Planet" initiative, which aims to put technology at the service of the ecological transition and the fight against climate change.
At the same time, Huawei is working every day to reduce the environmental impact of its own activities, in particular by promoting the use of renewable energy. For example, Huawei Digital Power focuses on areas such as clean energy generation, transportation electrification and green digital infrastructure to facilitate the energy transition. By the end of 2022, Huawei had helped its customers generate more than 695.1 billion kWh of green energy and reduce their energy consumption by 19.5 billion kWh, equivalent to nearly 340 million tons of CO2 emissions. In addition, Huawei is integrating the concept of circular economy into the life cycle management of its products, from design to retirement.
The group is committed to reducing its waste and carbon emissions in production processes, manufacturing its products with a longer lifespan by using more environmentally friendly materials and more sustainable packaging. In addition to these efforts, Huawei collaborates with partners such as environmental protection agencies and scientific research institutions to use its technologies to help preserve forests, wetlands, oceans and nature as a whole.
Tao Jingwen, a member of the board of directors and director of Huawei's sustainability committee, comments:
Sustainability is an important aspect of Huawei's overall strategy. We believe that technology has a major role to play in combating climate change and creating a more environmentally friendly world. Huawei is working with its customers, suppliers and partners to promote green and sustainable economic development and build a low-carbon society.
Dexter Galvin, CDP's Global Director of Business and Supply Chain, congratulated Huawei on its performance:
Environmental transparency is the first essential step on the road to carbon neutrality. In the face of today's environmental concerns, ranging from extreme weather events to unprecedented biodiversity losses, the need for collaborative transformation is more urgent than ever. As the CDP continues to raise the bar on climate, forest, and water management, we hope that the ambitions and actions of our A-list companies - and those who wish to be listed - will also live up to this standard.
